![]() ![]() This new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera starred Chris Mann (as The Phantom), Katie Travis (as Christina Daaé), and Strom Lineberger (as Raoul). The musical score is something I have long cherished and as the lights dimmed on the Pantages, I knew I would find myself quietly mouthing every word to the stunning operatic voices that would unfold on stage. It brought me to tears even at a young age and solidified my own love story with the theater. I was not fully prepared for the soaring beauty and incomprehensible tragedy this play would put before me. My Dad came along as a chaperone, and I remember taking a big yellow school bus into Manhattan, sneaking Peanut M & M’s into the theater, and feeling a rush of excitement as the lights dimmed. It was my very first Broadway experience as a part of a French class field trip. The first time I saw The Phantom of the Opera, I was a just a girl. But when I heard it was making a summer run back on Hollywood Boulevard, I knew I had to attend and I was not disappointed. In fact, I’ve even seen it at The Pantages Theatre once before. “The Phantom of the Opera” has long been my favorite Broadway plays. All opinions are my own.2015 THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA HAUNTS THE PANTAGES THIS SUMMER Individual tickets start at $29ĭisclosure: The Pantages invited me to Opening Night of Phantom of the Opera for editorial coverage. ![]() In Person: Hollywood Pantages Box Office (opens daily at 10am) and all Ticketmaster Outlets. Having seen this iconic show many times, it is sometimes hard to live up to the original Broadway productions, but this production definitely holds it’s own and then some especially with Chris at the helm. His co-star, Katie Travis as Christine Daaé was also an impressive talent with a beautiful melodic voice, as well as standout performances from Storm Lineberger as Raoul, and opera powerhouse Jacquelynne Fontaine as Carlotta Giudicelli. He is absolutely enchanting to watch and listen to. However, in my opinion, the best thing about the current Los Angeles run of Phantom is its leading man, Chris Mann, an incredible vocal talent and breakout contestant from NBC’s The Voice. Not only is Chris easy on the eyes even in Phantom makeup, he also has an opera singing background and totally nails the powerful operatic voice and dramatic flair that audiences have come to expect from the Phantom. This modern day Phantom has been reinvented with refreshing new staging and choreography and a stunning new scenic design, boasting many exciting special effects including the show’s legendary chandelier. The current tour features Cameron Mackintosh’s spectacular new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom, over seen by the brilliant Matthew Bourne. ![]() This past Wednesday, my son and I were delighted to attend the Opening Night performance of the North American Tour of The Phantom of the Opera at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre. ![]()
